Dr. John Malloy brings strong academic credentials, an enthusiasm for public education and more than 25 years of teaching and senior administrative experience to his role as Assistant Deputy Minister at the Ontario Ministry of Education. Prior to this, John was the Director of Education for Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board from July 2009 to January 2015.
As a leader, John guides with strategic direction, ensures effective internal and external communications, ensures an evidence-based model of education, and builds relationships with public and private sector industries, organizations and other academic institutions in support of student achievement.
While at HWDSB, John made student achievement and well-being the top priority and has helped move the Board in a direction where achievement, engagement and equity matter.
John began his career in 1986 as a high school English teacher. He served as a guidance counsellor for elementary and secondary school students before he was seconded for three years to the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where he taught in the pre-service teacher education program.
As a high school vice-principal, a principal of a school that served students in grades 7 to 12, and, in 2003, a superintendent, John has demonstrated a commitment and a vision that all students can achieve their full potential.
John has worked in many school districts including Toronto Catholic, Durham Catholic and York Region where the diversity of experiences and people broadened his perspective and understanding. As a superintendent, John served elementary and secondary schools and was involved in Staff Development, Student Success, Leadership Development, Labour Relations, and Equity and Inclusive Education.
